Asia Content Award 2020 Winners

The Asia Contents Awards, in its second year, are given out to outstanding Asian drama series on television and streaming services. It received 75 submissions from 17 countries this year.
The ceremony, organised by the 2020 Busan International Film Festival, was held entirely online this year due to the coronavirus pandemic.



Best Actress - Kim Hee-ae (The World of the Married) South Korea

The drama is about Ji Sun-Woo (Kim Hee-Ae) is a family medicine doctor. She is married to Lee Tae-Oh (Park Hae-Joon) and they have a son. She seems to have everything, including a successful career and a happy family, but she is betrayed by her husband and others.





Best Actress - Kuroki Haru (Nagi's Long Vacation) Japan

Nagi Oshima (Haru Kuroki) is a single, 28-year-old woman and she works for an electrical product manufacturer. She has extremely curly hair. She spends about an hour a day to make her straight. Nagi Oshima always tries to smile and considers other people's feelings. But, one day, her boyfriend Shinji Gamon says something to her. This makes Nagi Oshima look back at her life. She decides to reset her life. Nagi Oshima quits her job, cuts off everybody she knows (including her boyfriend), quits social media and cancels her cellphone. To restart her life, she moves to an old apartment in the suburbs of Tokyo. She wants to have a pleasant and free life, not caring about other people. She also decides to leave her hair curly. Her new life begins, with her ex-boyfriend Shinji Gamon following her and new people in her life.





Best Actor - Ju Ji Hoon (Kingdom) South Korea

10 days have passed since the King collapsed from an illness. Queen Jo (Kim Hye-Jun) and her father Chief State Councilor Jo Hak-Joo (Ryoo Seung-Ryong) have forbidden anyone else to see the King. Even his own son Crown Prince Lee Chang (Ju Ji-Hoon) is forbidden to see his father. In the meantime, Chief State Councilor Jo Hak-Joo rules Joseon with an iron fist, but rumors spread that the King is dead. Crown Prince Lee Chang senses something sinister and sneaks into the King's palace. He sees a shadowy monster through a door and smells its foul stench, but he is discovered and escorted out of the palace. His guard Moo-Young (Kim Sang-Ho) steals the medical journal for the King. The journal is nearly empty, but lists the name of Physician Lee Seung-Hui (Kwon Bum-Taek). To find out what happened to the King, Crown Prince Lee Chang and Moo-Young travel to the Jiyulheon clinic in faraway Dongnae to see the physician. When they arrive, they discover that the clinic is in ruins and dead bodies are found under a building. Crown Prince Lee Chang and Moo-Young later learn that the only person to have survived the clinic is medical staff member Seo-Bi (Bae Doo-Na). When they finally find Seo-Bi, she tells the them that the dead they saw at the clinic are not dead and they will rise up soon to kill.

After discovering his estranged daughter's link to mysterious murders, a forensic detective with Asperger's syndrome risks everything to solve the case.





Best Asian Drama - Last Madame - Singapore

Last Madame is a story that intertwines two seemingly opposite generations through the fascinating story of Chi Ling and her great-grandmother, Fung Lan. A story of the past and present – Last Madame tells the story of the last brothel owner, Fung Lan, in 1940s Singapore.





Best Asian Drama - When the Camelia Blooms - South Korea

Dong-Baek (Kong Hyo-Jin) is a single mother living in the small town of Ongsan. She runs the bar-restaurant Camellia, while also taking care of her son Pil-Gu (Kim Kang-Hoon). The people of Ongsan frequently gossip about Dong-Baek. She grew up as an orphan, is a single mother and runs a bar where many of the men in Ongsan frequent. Regardless of what the locals may whisper about Dong-Baek, local police officer Hwang Yong-Sik (Kang Ha-Neul) is deeply in love with her. Meanwhile, Dong-Baek's ex-boyfriend Kang Jong-Ryeol (Kim Ji-Suk) suddenly reappears in her life. He is a famous baseball player, that hid their relationship when they dated. While Dong-Baek tries to find happiness, something truly sinister lurks in the background. A serial killer roams Ongsan and Dong-Baek may be a target.

A whizz kids and his two friends, who happened to be runaways from children home, witnessed a murder by accident. Then, the three decided to blackmail the murderer, who is also a teacher of the whizz kid. A few more death follows. Their life and the life of people around them turned upside down consequently.




Best Writer and Technical Achievement Award - Kingdom



Best Newcome Female - Jeon Mi-do (Hospital Playlist) South Korea

Depicts the stories of doctors, nurses and patients at a hospital. 5 doctors all entered the same medical university in 1999. They are now friends and work together in the same hospital.





Best Newcomer Female - Plearnpichaya Komalarajun (Thailand_

Mook is a single mother who is still young at heart. For ten years, she has been living with her five daughters. One day, Mook falls in love with Tum, a kind-hearted widower with two young children. They fall madly in love and decide to get married. However, things do not go as smoothly as planned and Mook’s children express that they are not okay with her decision, especially Petch, who has been through thick and thin with her for the longest time. Petch does not want to see her mother’s life ruined because of another failed relationship. Meanwhile, Boom, Tum’s son, is for the marriage as he wants his father to find happiness. Mook and Tum want to be together but are not sure if their children will get along or not. Therefore, the two families make a deal to move in together with the condition that after one year, if any family member is unhappy with the arrangement, Mook and Tum’s marriage will not go ahead. When the family, that had until now been full of girls, is intruded by new housemates, chaos arises. They have to deal with big adjustments, conflicts, resentments, and romantic relationships that form between two soon-to-be step-siblings.

The story revolves around an extended Thai Chinese family whose members' seemingly happy relationships devolve into conflict following murder of the eldest son and head of the family business.

Best Rising Star - Dilraba Dilmurat (Eternal Love of Dream) China

Queen of Qing Qiu, Bai Feng Jiu (Dilraba Dilmurat), is the only red nine-tailed fox in the world. One day, Feng Jui is attacked by a savage beast while seeking cultivation in the mountains and is saved by the first Emperor of Heaven, Dong Hua (Vengo Gao). Grateful and feeling indebted, Feng Jiu accompanies Dong Hua to vanquish the Demon Lord, Miao Luo. As the two spend time together, Feng Jiu realizes her gratitude towards Dong Hua has slowly evolved into love. Unfortunately, Dong Hua has never experienced what love is. Although the coldest hearts can melt with time, will countless lifetimes be sufficient to bring these two hearts together?

Yoon Hee-Jae and Jung Geum-Ja are lawyers who work for the top 1% in society. Jung Geum-Ja is a lawyer, who is after money only. She wins her cases using any means necessary. Yoon Hee-Jae is an elite lawyer, who is smart and confident at his job.
