Avril Lavigne's Black Wedding Gown is a Lhuillier creation

Pop-rock star Avril Lavigne wore a black wedding gown created by Cebu-born fashion designer Monique Lhuillier when she married Nickelback frontman Chad Kroeger at the Chateau de la Napoule on the French Riviera last July 1.

According to the UK’s Daily Mail in a report published on Monday, Lavigne, 28, wanted a goth theme for her wedding.

“I wanted it to be over the top. I'm obsessed with castles and I love French decor and goth. I found this castle and it was perfect,” Daily Mail quoted Lavigne as saying.

Apart from her “untraditional” wedding gown, Lavigne also held a bouquet of black roses and wore dark eye make-up.

It was the second marriage for Lavigne, who was previously married to Sum 41 frontman Deryck Whibley before they divorced in 2009.

She and Kroeger started dating last year. The Daily Mail said the Nickelback singer proposed to Lavigne after just a month of dating.

Lhuillier, who is based in Los Angeles, posted wedding photos of Lavigne as featured in Hello Magazine on her company’s Facebook page early Monday, which drew varied comments from netizens.
Lhuillier has made the bridal gowns for other high-profile celebrity weddings such as those of singer Carrie Underwood, actress Alicia Silverstone and Oscar winner Reese Witherspoon.

The designer also made a Goth wedding gown for pop star Pink, which mixed ivory and black.
