The camp of actress Beauty Gonzalez addressed on Thursday a report saying the former "Pinoy Big Brother" housemate was arrested in Calapan City early this week.
In a statement given to ABS-CBN News on Thursday afternoon, Gonzalez's legal counsel, Atty. Charlotte Goco, said the "allegations [against the actress] are the result of pure misunderstanding."
Island Sentinel, a news outfit focusing on parts of Region IV, reported Tuesday that Gonzalez was arrested in Calapan City on Monday for "obstruction of justice."
Gonzalez was reportedly held in custody by the Philippine National Police - Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) after she allegedly tried to help in the escape of her brother, Michael Ryan Gonzalez.
According to the Island Sentinel report, Michael Ryan was arrested last November 14 in relation to an alleged human trafficking case.
Quoting Police Supt. Ruel Atayde Ferrer, the report said Gonzalez "got the trust of CIDG men through the help of an unnamed police colonel, she enticed the authorities to let Michael leave the CIDG premises here for a moment to buy something outside."
"But as soon as [Gonzalez] got Michael inside her car which was being driven an unidentified male companion, they sped off to the Calapan port and boarded a passenger ferry boat, which has departed to Batangas City port," the report said.
CIDG personnel in Batangas, according to the report, were able to intercept Gonzalez and her brother's alleged attempt to escape.
Gonzalez and her male companion, the report added, are now facing a case for obstruction of justice.
Goco on Thursday, however, denied this. "There is no case yet filed in court against her. The matter is still under investigation," she said in the statement.
"We are confident that the legal process will eventually show the truth," she added.
Meanwhile, a post on Gonzalez's Twitter page on November 19 read, unedited: "Everything happens for a reason.. Back to work.. give me strength god.."
In another post on Instagram on Thursday, the actress also shared a photo of a script for the upcoming Star Cinema film, "Un-Love You." The accompanying caption read: "Back to work."
