A Little Light of Kindness

>> Tuesday, October 20, 2026

As believers in Jesus, we're "the light of the world" Matthew 5:14. That is not a suggestion or a goal to strive for someday, it is an identity Jesus Himself gave us.

When we receive the gift God gave us through Christ  His forgiveness, His grace, His indwelling Spirit we are no longer wandering in darkness trying to find our way. We are brought into His marvelous light, and we learn to walk in that light day by day.

To walk in His light means we choose honesty over hiding, grace over grudges, and truth over what is merely convenient. It means we let His Word shape our decisions and His love shape our character.

And then Jesus says, "let your light shine before others"  verse 16. He doesn't tell us to shine to be seen or praised, but so that others may see our good works and glorify our Father in heaven.

Your light may not look like a stadium floodlight. Sometimes it is as quiet as a kind word to a tired cashier, patience with a difficult family member, integrity when no one is watching, or a prayer whispered for someone who is hurting.

The world around us can feel so dark  with anxiety, division, and discouragement  and darkness doesn't need to be chased away, it only needs light to enter.

You don't have to generate that light on your own. With Him as our source, we don't burn out trying to be bright; we simply stay close to the Source and reflect Him.

Jesus is the true Light, and we are like moons reflecting the sun. The closer we stay to Him, the more naturally we shine.

So today, in your home, your classroom, your workplace, your group chat  don't hide what God has done in you.

Let your life speak of the hope you've found, not in loud boasting, but in steady, faithful love.

With Him as our source, let's shine for Him today  not for our glory, but for His.
