Michael Floyd arrested for DUI

>> Thursday, December 22, 2016

Michael Floyd had a blood-alcohol level of .217 when he was arrested and charged for a DUI back on December 12, which is nearly three times the legal limit, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.
As the recently released police video shows, Floyd was found passed out behind his wheel of his Cadillac Escalade at around 2:48 in the morning in Arizona. His car stayed idle as two light cycles went by and when police were able to wake him up, he was incoherent and had no clue where he was.
After the arrest, he was released from the Arizona Cardinals for showing little to no remorse, according to the team president. Less than 24 hours later, the New England Patriots claimed him off waivers.
When asked about the released video of the wide receiver on Wednesday, head coach Bill Belichick said, "We were aware of the situation before we claimed him. He’s in an ongoing legal situation that I’m not going to comment on."

Floyd was initially charged with obstructing a roadway, DUI impaired to the slightest degree, DUI blood alcohol content above .08 and failure to obey a police officer. Two more charges -- having a BAC of .15 or more and for a BAC of .20 or more --- have been tacked on giving him a total of six.
Arizona has strict laws with major penalties for driving under the influence and having a BAC of .15 and .20 or higher. If he is convicted of the Super Extreme DUI (over .20), according to Arizona law he would be required to serves at least 45 days in jail.
Schefter also reports that there is a scenario where Floyd could serves some jail time and then could theoretically serve a portion of the sentence under home detention with alcohol monitoring.
Floyd's first appearance in court for a pretrial hearing is scheduled for February 24th, but he does not need to be present.
