Lauryn Hill sentenced for tax evasion

Lauryn Hill, 37, will be jailed for three months for failing to pay her taxes. She failed to pay taxes on about $1.8m (£1.2m) of earnings between 2005-07. Lauryn said she intended to pay her taxes but could not return to the music industry. Lauryn is raising her 6 children.
"I am a child of former slaves who had a system imposed on them," Hill said in court. "I had an economic system imposed on me."
U.S. Magistrate Judge Madeline Cox Arleo in Newark, N.J. federal court also sentenced Hill to three months of home confinement with electronic monitoring after the prison term.
Her prison term is scheduled to begin on July 8.
Lauryn Hill is a former member of Fugees and later launched a solo career.
