>> Sunday, May 19, 2013

Veteran actress Bella Flores, famous for portraying villains in films and television shows, passed away early Sunday morning. She was 84.

Flores was rushed to the Quezon City General Hospital by her daughter, Ruby Arcilla, and singer Imelda Papin, but was declared dead at 1:27 am.

According to Arcilla, Flores' condition had worsened ever since her hip surgery last year following a fall.

She was also suffering from diabetes, heart disease as well as the early stages of Alzheimer's disease.

After Flores’ blood pressure crashed, doctors were able to revive her several times before she eventually succumbed.

"Sana po huwag niyo siyang kakalimutan," said Arcilla. "Sana po tumatak pa rin ang pangalang Bella Flores sa pelikulang Pilipino."

Flores first entered the entertainment industry in the 1950s at the age of 14, and eventually became known for her portrayal of iconic villains.

She received a Best Supporting Actress trophy from the Filipino Academy of Movie Arts and Sciences (FAMAS) in 1967 for her role in the film "Kaibigan Ko'ng Sto. Nino."

In 1989, she received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Film Academy of the Philippines.

Flores' wake will be held at the Loyola Crematory Chapel in Quezon City starting 7:00 pm
