Amal and George Clooney to Fund Public Schools to Syrian refugee children in Lebanon

In a statement to the Associated Press on Monday, the power couple announced that their charity, the Clooney Foundation for Justice, will team up with Google, HP, and UNICEF to open and fund seven public schools for Syrian refugee children in Lebanon.

The schools will provide education for more than 3,000 children in Amal's home country and will ensure that the young refugees don't become "a lost generation." "They have been victims of geography and circumstance, but that doesn't mean there isn't hope," the couple wrote in the statement. "Our goal with this initiative is to help provide Syrian refugee children with an education and put them on a path to be the future leaders their generation desperately needs." According to the Clooney Foundation, the more than $2 million project will "provide necessary school supplies to enrolled students…provide transportation to the CFJ-supported schools for refugee students who would otherwise have no choice but to stay home and fall further behind…[and] pilot state-of-the-art technology tools geared toward advancing learning outcomes."
The actor, 56, and human rights lawyer, 39, established the Clooney Foundation for Justice in 2016, with a mission of "advancing justice in courtrooms, communities, and classrooms around the world." Since its founding, the organization has worked to resettle and provide assistance to Syrian and Yazidi refugees in the United States and act as a watchdog for courts dealing with human rights cases.
