Ask the president to remove me, says PNP Chief Bato dela Rosa

“Ask President Rodrigo Duterte to remove me.”
This was the reply of Philippine National Police chief Director General Ronald dela Rosa to those calling for his resignation following the killing of South Korean Jee Ick Joo allegedly inside Camp Crame.
“Akala ba nila nag-e-enjoy ako sa trabaho ko. Gusto nila ako mag-resign, sabihin nila sa Presidente na paalisin ako,” Dela Rosa told reporters.
Dela Rosa said wants first to finish the government’s intensified campaign against illegal drugs before leaving his job.
“Habang meron pa kaming mission na gagawin tapusin muna namin itong war on drugs. Siguro kapag tapos na, ma-declare na natin na drug-free ang buong Pilipinas pwede na ako mag-resign,” he said.
On Friday, House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez called on Dela Rosa to resign.
In a statement, Alvarez said Dela Rosa "should immediately resign as chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP) to save President Rodrigo Duterte from further embarrassment and restore respect to the Office of the PNP Chief."
"The commission of a heinous crime right in his very nose is not only an insult but a clear indication that he has lost the respect of his people," he added.
But Dela Rosa described those seeking for his resignation as cruel.
“Grabe naman sila. How cruel of them to say na mag-resign ako. Wala na nga akong pahinga, wala na nga akong tulog but anyway we cannot satisfy everyone,” he said.
He admitted that the killing of Jee was shortcoming of the police organization.
“Inaamin ko naman talaga na ‘yung nangyari na dito pa pinatay kapalpakan namin yan. Pulis yan e kagaguhan, kasindikatauhan ang ginawa. Sagot ko yan dahil ako ang chief PNP,” he said.
He said he does not want to leave Duterte hanging while the illegal drug trade is still wreaking havoc in the country.
“Sabihin nila magresign ako. Ako ay hirap na hirap na. Gusto n’yo ako magresign nahiya lang ako iwan si Presidente. Ipagpatuloy namin itong aming giyera sa droga,” he said.
Asked what was the President’s directive regarding SPO3 Ricky Sta Isabel, Dela Rosa said that is just between the two of them.
“Tinanong nya sa akin (yung kaso ni Sta Isabel) at galit na galit sya. Amin na lang yun(g directive niya), hindi ko pwede sabihin sa iyo,” he said.
