The identity of Uzbekistan's first ever representative in this year's Miss World competition has been called into question, after the country said they had no idea who she was.
18 year old Rakhima Ganieva appears like the model contestant - was born and raised in the Uzbek capital Tashkent, "loves to play the piano" and enjoys "playing tennis, travelling, and learning history".
But Uzbek officials say that no competition to select a Miss Uzbekistan has ever been held.
Miss Ganieva’s profile is on the organisation’s official website.
In her introductory video she claims “this year I became a student at the University of International Diplomacy and Economy”, however her written biography states that she is a graduate from “Tashkent Professional College of Tourism”. She ends her video by declaring "I really want to win".
Miss Ganieva has maintained an active Facebook page, posting photos of herself with various other contestants including Miss Russia, Miss Albania and Miss Georgia.
Uzbek's Radio Liberty Service, contacted both the Uzbek Culture and Sports Ministry and the National Committee on Women. Both of claim no knowledge of Miss Ganieva, or her participation in the contest.
Modelling agencies have never heard of her and the University Miss Ganieva claims to be a student at, actually the University of World Economy and Diplomacy, have no record of her.
The president’s daughter, Gulnara Karimova a sometime pop-star, took to Twitter and derided Miss. Ganieva describing her as a ‘'Tajik-looking girl' who 'appeared out of nowhere'.
