Jollibee Singapore is No. 1 branch globally

>> Thursday, July 04, 2013

Only four months since it opened, the Singapore branch of Jollibee is already the fast food chain’s number one outlet globally.

Quoting Dennis Flores, Jollibee’s vice-president for international operations, Yahoo! Singapore reported that the sales performance of the Singapore branch exceeded expectations, adding that there was an estimated 35,000 customers in the first week alone.

Flores said the Singapore outlet, which is located on the sixth floor of the Lucky Plaza in Orchard Road, has become "the chain’s top performer in terms of sales out of its 884 stores across the globe."

Citing point-of-sales data, Flores added that the demands for Chickenjoy and Yum Burger were also high among the country’s locals as 40% of the weekday lunch crowd is made up of Singaporeans.

Back in March, the soft opening of the store drew criticism because of the restaurant’s alleged preference for Filipino workers.

There was even an online campaign to boycott the restaurant to send a message that foreign businesses that hire foreigners first are not welcome in Singapore.

The issue started when Jollibee Singapore posted a message on its Facebook wall urging all “Jollibee fans” looking for careers at Jollibee Singapore to send their detailed resume. However, there is no mention on Jollibee Singapore's Facebook page that it was only hiring Filipinos for its store.

Yahoo! Singapore also cited a statement of the food company saying that “nearly 80% of its staff are permanent residents and Singapore citizens.”
